The biennial Interact conference took place in City Hall, Cardiff on 14th September. Interact is an engagement conference for the physical sciences co-organised by SEPnet, the STFC, the IOP, the RAS and the Ogden Trust. The symposium had five core themes: Evaluation and impact Reaching audiences underrepresented in the physical sciences Engagement mediums Funding routes for engagement Sharing good practice Almost 200 people attended on the day from a vast range of universities, charities, industry partners, outreach organisations and learned societies. Outreach and Public Engagement Roadmap Launched

In 2017 SEPnet launched it’s first Outreach and Public Engagement Strategy, to help guide activities across the network and to ensure that our engagement activity can has the most impact possible. To supplement this we have today launched our Outreach and Public Engagement Roadmap. This is a document which outlines possible interventions with young people of different ages, and how this can be targeted and supported by work within the same broader community. SEPnet Public Engagement Awards now open for nominations!

The SEPnet Public Engagement Awards 2021 are now open for nominations! The deadline for submission is 5pm on Friday 19th February 2021. The awards ceremony will be held online on March 25th 2021. The awards have been postponed from September 2020 in the hope that they would be able to go ahead in person. Conventional superconductors were discovered in 1911 but the theoretical explanation did not come until 1957. Launch of Interact 2017 Evaluation Report

SEPnet, together with STFC, Institute of Physics and the University of Birmingham are proud to launch the evaluation report from Interact 2017. Interact 2017 was a symposium whose aim was to cultivate a community of engagement practitioners within the physical sciences who develop high quality STEM engagement and encourage a culture of strategic and reflective practice. The symposium was a success with over 120 physical scientists from across the UK attending and sharing best practice. SEPnet launches Shattering Stereotypes Evaluation Report

During the 2016/17 academic year, SEPnet Outreach & Public Engagement has been piloting a project determining the best role Physics Outreach Officers can play in tackling and improving the gender stereotyping problem in schools. This was the first SEPnet-wide project which involved building a direct partnership with a set of schools to deliver a programme of activity over an academic year. The pilot was a first step, so the priority for the evaluation was on logistics over impact of the project, though both were considered. SEPnet celebrates Public Engagement at Award Ceremony

The third SEPnet Public Engagement Awards were held on Wednesday 29 November 2017. The ceremony was a fantastic opportunity to showcase amazing Public Engagement projects and practitioners from across the region. Awards were were given out in six categories. For some awards the competition was very close, leading to other nominees being awarded a highly commended certificate.
